Tax and Customs Museum: Lieftinck’s briefcase
Tax in style
Piet Lieftinck was the first Minister of Finance who used a special briefcase to present the National Budget on the third Tuesday in September 1946. In doing so, he started a tradition. We are now a number of briefcases further on, but Lieftinck’s original briefcase still exists today. The Tax and Customs Museum is the proud owner of this national political icon and would like to show it to the public. The museum has therefore asked Studio Louter to develop an appropriate exhibit together with Frank Tjepkema to ensure this iconic artefact is given pride of place in the collection.
