Jewish Historical Museum: Charlotte Salomon
Life? or Theatre?
Charlotte Salomon (1917-1943) created her autobiographical series of paintings Life? or Theatre? for therapy after she discovered that all her female family members had committed suicide. The more than 800 paintings with accompanying text and musical directions have never been exhibited before as a whole. The Jewish Historical Museum, however, is doing precisely that. Studio Louter worked together with the museum to develop the exhibition concept, four films and three screens with background information.
During the exhibition, you discover the qualities of Charlotte Salomon as an artist thanks to the scope and power of expression of Life? or Theatre?. Films and bB provide context and depth and show you the various layers behind the artwork.
