Mauritshuis: Virtual Willem V Gallery
Walking around in the 18th century
For the Willem V Gallery, the new annex to the Mauritshuis, Studio Louter developed an application for two enormous touchscreens. On the screens a virtual gallery is displayed in which historical figures walk around and explain the stories behind the paintings.
At the end of the 18th century stadtholder Prince Willem V himself opened the very first museum in the Netherlands: a gallery open to the public and that was filled to the brim with about 200 paintings. The new gallery is not a historical reconstruction, but the same atmosphere of opulence and luxury is in the air.
