The timeless sea

HDMZ Museum Zandvoort, Zandvoort (NL), 2020

As the German troops march in, snow falls softly on the beach. Seen on film, the resort town of Zandvoort reveals itself as a timeless stage for an ever-changing cast of residents.

Empress Sisi

People have been coming to Zandvoort beach for centuries. The beach was here when the first local fishers went to sea, when the Austrian Empress Sisi took a stroll with her retinue, when the Germans built their bunkers, and when the first racing cars roared around the track.

360° projection

The story of Zandvoort comes spectacularly to life in a specially built round screening room. A 360° projection takes visitors on a trip through time. We see how the beach and the sea are constantly changing and yet always the same. We get to know Zandvoort as a timeless stage for an ever-changing cast of residents.

“This film is an ode to Zandvoort.”
