Between Heaven and Earth

M Leuven, Leuven (BE), 2020

Saint Peter’s Church links modern-day Leuven with the old city. Through an interactive headset, visitors can see for themselves.

The heart of the city

Leuven is the city of Dieric Bouts and Stella Artois, of religion and innovation, of students and craftspeople. It's a city of destruction, sorrow and tenacity; of parties, beer and parades. Its many aspects come together at Saint Peter’s Church, the ancient heart of the city.

Layered reality

Studio Louter designed a mixed-reality tour that guides the visitor through Leuven’s multifaceted history via objects in and around the refurbished St Peter’s Church. Looking at art treasures including Dieric Bouts’s triptych ‘The Last Supper’, visitors discover the hidden stories behind these extraordinary works. Each object is also linked with a location in the city. In this way, we connect old Leuven with today’s city.

The tour is made to be compatible with Microsoft’s HoloLens 2. It is the technology’s premiere in the Belgian museum world.

“Our city has gained a unique attraction.”
