Movie stars and masterpieces

Mauritshuis, Den Haag (NL), 2016

To make museum visits more exciting for schoolchildren, docents tailored them to each class’s specific interests with the help of a website.

Art matchmaking

The Mauritshuis museum in The Hague welcomes a large number of school groups every year. To make visits more exciting for pupils, docents give custom tours based on each class’s interests. To help them discover those interests, we developed a website with the museum: ‘Match with the Mauritshuis’.

Profile-based tours

The website was the pupils’ first contact with the museum. Before their visit they filled in a survey about what they liked to do in their spare time – what kinds of films they enjoyed, who their idols were, what they liked to eat. Their combined answers created a profile of the class, which the docents used to show the pupils how their interests featured in the museum’s masterpieces. Ever looked at Paulus Potter’s ‘The Bull’ as a crime scene? Or had Johannes Vermeer’s ‘Girl with a Pearl Earring’ in the crosshairs? The profile-based tours made for a perfect match between each class and the museum.
