The value of heritage

Municipality of Medemblik (NL), 2021

The Dutch town of Medemblik boasts a wealth of cultural heritage, from a historic town centre to a genuine castle. But residents aren’t always aware of it. How do you make sure local heritage is recognised, valued and preserved?

Local heritage

Ride with me Medemblik

For the launch of Kijk je Rijk, we developed a learning pathway for primary schools and published a cycling guide. Roos Stallinga’s ‘Ride With Me Medemblik’ sets out various cycling routes that go past heritage sites in Medemblik. The routes challenge local residents to discover or rediscover their immediate surroundings.

“There’s a lot to see in Medemblik, and there are wonderful stories behind all the sights. Those stories need to be told.”
