Monastery museum

Museum Catharijneconvent, Utrecht (NL)

You can’t open a newspaper today without noticing the role religion plays in the world. That makes Museum Catharijneconvent more relevant than ever. The museum shows visitors the full breadth of the art and history of Christianity in the Netherlands.

KAAN Architecten’s vision for the Museum Catharijneconvent building.

Growing interest

Museum Catharijneconvent has seen its visitor numbers rising for years. To handle increasing interest and to be able to devote attention to important subjects in the future, the museum is working on the biggest renovation in its history.

Monastery museum

People have been handing down stories in churches and cloisters for centuries. Inspired by the past residents of this former monastery, we bring visitors, the building and its design, and objects from the past and present into conversation.

“With KAAN Architecten, OPERA Amsterdam and Studio Louter we’ve got three parties with great track records on board (…) to make the museum even better.”
