In love with the Achterhoek

Museum STAAL, Almen (NL), 2017

Swaying on a swing, visitors will fall in love with the landscape just as the romantic poet A.C.W. Staring did.

The little church in Almen

“Elk weet, waar ’t Almensch Kerkje staat,” the romantic poet A.C.W. Staring wrote in one of his best-known works – “Everyone knows where the little Almen Church is.” Opposite that little church is Museum STAAL, where visitors can get acquainted with Staring’s greatest source of inspiration: the Achterhoek region of the Netherlands.

Swept away

At Museum STAAL, visitors experience the beauty of the Achterhoek in an unexpected way. Be swept away to Staring’s country estate De Wildenborch, discover the poet’s family history, and see dreamlike landscape scenes as you sway gently back and forth on a swing. The Staring exhibition lets museumgoers fall in love with the Achterhoek region just as the poet did.

“A tasteful, modern museum that really made me appreciate the poet Staring.”
