Weaving dreams
into a plan

Texture Museum of Flax and River Lys, Kortrijk (BE), 2025

Texture has the ambition to become a future-proof museum for makers, but did not yet know how to get there. Together with the museum, we developed a plan to further interweave Texture with its surroundings, heritage, and field of practice.

A new era with new needs

Texture is preparing for the future. After ten years, the collection display is ready for renewal, and the position of museums has changed. Society now expects museums to form an equal relationship with the public, to jointly explore the collection’s meaning. Texture wants to achieve this by becoming a makers’ museum. The ambition was clearly articulated in the policy. But where to begin?

Concept as a common thread

Together with the museum, we developed a plan to realise the dream. We began with a Pressure-cooker session in which we formulated a concept: In Texture 2.0, maker and visitor, past and present, museum and surroundings become even more closely intertwined.

Weaving dreams into a plan

Based on this concept, we developed a concrete plan. We drew up substantive guidelines for exhibitions and collaborations. We also assigned essential functions to the spaces in the building, from open studio to cabinet of curiosities. We visualised the dream with appealing imagery to support fundraising. With this plan, Texture is ready for the next step.
